GRAPHISOFT MEP Modeler for ArchiCAD
"Poor coordination between trades is perhaps the biggest reason for cost and time overruns in buildings"
The MEP (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing) Modeler is an add-on for GRAPHISOFT's ArchiCAD BIM solution. Architectural practices and architectural/engineering firms using ArchiCAD can now use the GRAPHISOFT MEP Modeler to create, edit or import 3D MEP networks (ductwork, piping and cable trays) and coordinate them with the ArchiCAD Virtual Building.
Poor coordination between trades is perhaps the biggest reason for cost and time overruns in buildings. These problems regularly cause as much as 2-4% cost overrun on total project budget. Thus, owners and contractors are looking to dramatically reduce coordination errors. The MEP Modeler is the solution for architects to help drive more efficiency in the building process.

Capabilities
The GRAPHISOFT MEP Modeler includes the following capabilities:
- Powerful modeling tools to easily and quickly create and edit an MEP model within ArchiCAD
- Powerful routing in the 3D view as well on the floor plan with intelligent connections
- A rich library of industry standard parametric components which can be customized to user requirements
- A custom part creation wizard
- Interference detection to coordinate MEP systems with architectural & structural disciplines
- The ability to import 3D models from AutoCAD MEP 2008/2009

Workflow
BIM Workflow:- Where the MEP engineer can provide 3D data, architects are able to import the
consultant’s MEP model into ArchiCAD using the IFC format. - In addition to the generic IFC interface, the MEP Modeler package provides an export plug-in for AutoCAD
MEP 2008/09 called ArchiCAD Connection. - The architect using ArchiCAD could request that their MEP consultants “design & engineer” in whatever workflow they are
currently using but model with MEP Modeler to improve coordination.
- Based on 2D documentation received from engineers, you can use the MEP Modeler's powerful built-in tools to create and edit the MEP model within ArchiCAD.

Recommended User
We recommend the MEP Modeler to architectural firms:
- whose architects are responsible for the creation/coordination of the 3D models coming from various disciplines within or outside their own firm, thus reducing the coordination errors arising on the building site
- whose architects or engineers are working on projects for which 3D MEP modeling is needed
The MEP Modeler will aid architects who want:
- to meet the needs of owners and contractos who want to dramatically reduce coordination errors
- to be better prepared to communicate mechanical engineers about mechanical/electrical/plumbing related matters
- a better way to create and edit 3D MEP models when none exist
- a better way to import and coordinate 3D MEP Models that were created in other systems
- a value-add that will help you stand out to clients and potential clients
- a platform where MEP data created with any engineering solution can come into
the ArchiCAD environment reliably.
